"The book is incredible, Dali's biography really makes an effort in diving into the mind of this great and polemic genius.
It's awesome to see that he created so many paintings, but some of his most famous ones really could have been printed bigger in the book.
Also, I don't know if it was only in my copy, but some pages had no text, the story just stopped mid-sentence on one page and another chapter began a few pages later. Also on these blank pages, the paintings were there, but not captions to them. A shame, but nonetheless it's a wonderful book."

Dalí 2018 Broschürenkalender 4002725951465 Books Reviews

  • As time went on Dali began to trade more with his reputation and bizarre acts than his actual art- but his body of work still manages to fascinate (with the exception of his 'tarot card set' which was a poorly done gold edged rip off) He's one of the most technically proficient modern artists when it comes to detailed paintings such as his Myth of Sysyphus. His work still manages to break viewers free of their preconceptions and help them think in a new way. Even in print form some of his detailed work is down right hypnotic- his skill is often overlooked in favor of nothing but version of melting clocks. That's a mistake. There is no real sense of who Dali is- which is the way he wanted it. It's the art that matters- and it still has visual power. He was never as crazy as he made out to be- he knew how to fleece his public to make a dollar (the thousands of signed prints for example) and made some art that still engages people in ways from color choice to detail. At his best- there isn't any art like it.
  • Dali had the technique of an old master combined with the vision and wit of a modern revolutionary artist. In a century of crap art, dadaism and vacant-ism (nothing is there), Dali stands out as someone who wasn't afraid of form. He certainly had a sense of humor but his best works will stand the test of time along side those of Leonardo which he mocked. I am so happy to have these two volumes to savor. The plates are magnificent and the commentary is intriguing. This is the set to get!
  • I purchased this two-volume set to replace my other Dali books, and they have. This set is outstanding, especially for the inclusion of beautiful early works I had not seen published elsewhere such as the 'Botijo and Peras' still life.

Dali's polarizing art and lifestyle prompted extreme reactions from art critics, essayists, and propagandists. Fortunately, this set contains excellent information and important insights from Dali-insider Robert Descharnes. Descharnes presents biographical facts and writing excerpts in a coherent overview of Dali's artistic development.

This set contains a good number of drawings. Some are reprinted from the book "50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship" by Salvador Dali, but I found many of them to be new. The drawings include studies and outlines for paintings, rarely seen erotic pieces, and illustrations for books.

For an excellent single-volume treatment of Dali by the same authors, I recommend "Dali" by Robert Descharnes (Author), Gilles Beret (Contributor) ISBN-10 3822802980.
  • I bought this as a gift and let me tell you from what I can see, this is the pinnacle of Dali.

This collection houses all his masterpieces and is the most definitive storehouse of his works. Absolutely beautiful and stunning. All the other books I have seen on Dali do not even come close to what this collection offers.

It may look like a hefty price tag, but you are getting two solid books with everything inside. To get all of this from buying smaller and cheaper books, you would have to purchase over $100 worth, and even then you would have duplicates and duplicates of pages.

Buy this, and you need never buy another Dali collection again.

BUYER BEWARE seems to have an annoying knack of not protecting books when they ship. I have ordered a great many expensive collections (and even books around lower margins of $15 to $25), only to find them damaged due to lack of care from their packing. This massive collection came to me with scuffs and bent in marks in the spine. Best to speak with a seller on about packing protection, then ordering from itself.
